Sera, 25

My favorite thing about my body is my tattoos. The tattoos help me accept my body for what it is. I have quite a large piece on my back. Once I got the tattoo I felt that this one thing on my body was beautiful and it gave me confidence. It's hardly ever visible but I know it's there. It's like always wearing stockings underneath your normal clothes.

I used to be insecure about my looks. I was an awkward teenager, taking a long time to grow into my body. I believe “a late bloomer” is the term. I didn't feel ugly, but I was always tall, always trying to hide.

Growing up, there was no butter in the house and few sweets. It was always, “Don't eat that, you'll get fat!” It put emphasis on the wrong kind of beauty: not the beauty on the inside. For me, beauty is all about how you are feeling and your expression of your inner self.

I love the idea of this project. It is about a different beauty, which to me is true beauty. The people I find most beautiful are not the conventional beauties. Models, with bland faces and pale skin, somehow became the icon. I find that the more unique and different someone looks, the more interesting and attractive I find them.
